Who am I

Hi there, my name is Alex Baker, and I am a Senior at Tennessee Tech University. I will graduate in May of 2023 with a Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, with a focus in Information Assurance and Cyber-Security. My goal is for this website to serve as a showcase of the personal projects I work on.

My current interests involve network management, working with firewall rules in pfSense, spinning up virtual servers in ProxMox VE, and penetration testing. Recently I have also challenged myself to complete a series of CTF (Capture The Flag) challenges from Vulnhub. I am currently on the Cyber Eagles CPTC (Collegiate Penetration Testing Competition) team and will represent my university at the 2022 event in mid October.

Aside from my personal hobbies, I am focused on completing my final year of college education and preparing to pursue a career in cybersecurity, computer research, and general computer science. I enjoy the challenge of learning new concepts, and work best by experimentation. To carry out the type of computer research and experiments I am interested in, it became essential for me to construct an environment that was isolated from my primary home network.

This new isolated network was the beginning of a never ending journey into the world of self hosted services and home labs. This year, I have decided to completely rebuild my home lab from the ground up and to document each project I take on. I hope that this documentation will allow others to follow along and learn with me as I attempt to expand my general knowledge of computers through hands on experiments.
